5 predictions on the future of databases (from a guy who knows databases)

Michael Stonebraker is a lightning rod in the database world. He knows his stuff, having helped create some of the most-popular database systems around — Postgres, Ingres and Vertica. One of his most-recent endeavors (among many), VoltDB, is an in-memory OLTP (online transaction processing) system he claims is two orders of magnitude faster than legacy options.

Yet, Stonebraker’s opinions throughout the years have been fairly controversial, garnering support on one hand and vehement opposition on the other. In 2011, for example, he told me that Facebook was trapped in a MySQL “fate worse than death” — and, boy, the backlash came fast and furious.

Stonebraker came on our Structure Show podcast this week to talk about his assessment of the database market as it stands today, including the fate of NoSQL, Oracle and, yes, Facebook’s MySQL installation. Here are some of the highlights, but if anyone into building…

Towards the end of 2008, we brought online a new datacenter to serve the over 5.5 million blogs now hosted on the WordPress.com platform.  Adding the data center in Chicago, IL gives us a total of 3 data centers across the US which serve live content at any given time.  We have decommissioned one of our facilities in the Dallas, TX area.  Our friends at Layered Technologies were kind enough to shoot this footage for us (think The Blair Witch Project) and the always awesome Michael Pick took care of the editing.  Here’s a peak at what a typical WordPress data center installation looks like…

Resolusi untuk 5 tahun kedepan

Tahun lalu dan tahun sekarang akan menjadi sangat berat! mungkin karena kemampuan ku yang pas-pasan membuat semua ini terasa sulit. Menghadapi hari demi hari dengan penuh kegelisahan. Tapi hal ini sudh cukup sampai hari ini.

Rencana untuk melanjutkan studi ke perguruan tinggi akan ku spend sampai tahun depan karena sangat tidak mungkin untuk mengikuti seleksi kembali di tahun ini, saat ini saya bekerja di salah satu Perusahaan Webhosting Indonesia yang tidak memungkinkan jika saya harus berhenti berkarir,. Tapi bagaimana ? hati ini sangat ingin melanjutkan studi 😦

Hal ini sudah saya pikirkan sejak 2 bulan yang lalu tepatnya tahun baru 2012. Mengingat keadaan untuk saat ini belum memungkinkan untuk berjalan sendiri itu sangat tidak mungkin. Terlalu banyak hal belum aku ketahui!

Resolu shidupku untuk lima tahun kedepan adalah Satu tahun yang akan datang, saya harus berkonstrasi untuk persiapan menghadapi seleksi perguruan tinggi tahun depan yang tapi dampaknya konsentrasi untuk pekerjaan akan saya gunakan secukupnya demi tercapainya resolusi ini.

Manusia memang hanya dapat merencanakan dan berangan-angan tapi aku yakin jika kita rencanakan terlebih dahulu dan terus meminta Ridha -Nya maka semua recana dan angan-angan kita akan tercapai suatu saat nanti 🙂

Lembur Lagi

Untuk pertama kalinya nge-blog tentang kejadian sehari-hari. No Problem, biar cepet bisa lancar nulisnya hhe. Sesuai dengan judulnya, kali ini giliran untuk lembur entry sekaligus bug program untuk sebuah instansi sekolah. Jika dikatakan berat memang berat, karena sudah mendekati deadline. Tapi karena memang sudah menjadi tanggung jawab, maka harus dilakukan dengan hati yang ikhlas. rancangan semua web sudah selesai, tetapi masih harus dicek dan di kembangkan lagi sistem keamanannya. Saat ini sedang merajalela kegiatan penetrasi-penetrasi web yang dilakukan oleh para komunitas hacker untuk menguji kekuatan dasn keamanan dari sebuah web. Oleh karena itu proses pengecekkan ini akan membutuhkan banyak waktu agar kualiatasnya terjamin dan dapat berjalan dengan baik.
